Calling all cyclists and runners - you're invited to join the RACV Energy Breakthrough STRAVA club! Created to connect students from schools across Victoria and beyond as they prepare for this year's event in Maryborough. Strava is the social network for athletes, where anyone can upload their physical activities (runs, rides, swims, anything!). They can then give and receive 'kudos' and comments on other friend's activities, too.
The RACV EB have joined forces with La Trobe University and Cyient to hold a special 'Design, Display and Trial' preparation workshop ahead of the 2017 RACV Energy Breakthrough. This free workshop is an invitation for all RACV EB students, teachers and team managers to attend and will be held on the morning of Friday October 27 2017 at the La Trobe University campus in Bendigo.
These students from Beaconsfield Upper Primary School had an awesome time in the 2016 Pushcarts category ... and YOU can still join them this November! Yes, we're taking entries for 'Pushcarts' and 'Innovations in Technology' teams until the end of Term 3. So, get your teammates together to enter today.
Jake ‘Cobba’ Stevens will be familiar to many in our RACV Energy Breakthrough community from our wildly popular EBTV video series. But what is less well known is that Jake was previously an RACV EB participant himself. Between school and EBTV he spent a formative time studying Journalism at La Trobe University, a proud partner of the RACV EB program. Jake is about to cover the World Athletics Championships on behalf of Athletics Australia. We caught up with him just before it kicked off...
Following up our recent feature on the Woodleigh School, we've turned the spotlight on the untouchable Queensland team from Ormeau Woods State High School. They swept all before them in a smooth and fast display to take line honours with their pedal and electric powered Energy Efficient Vehicle.
Whilst our teams this week in Australia have been racing to get their entries in as quickly as possible, the Girton Racing Team from Bendigo is in Singapore taking on a very different type of challenge. They're in Singapore for the Shell Eco-Marathon (Asia) and are aiming to cover 900km their vehicle with just one litre of petrol.
Not many schools achieve back-to-back success in Human Powered Vehicle (HPV) events. So, we caught up with their Team Manager and RACV EB Alumni Jono Keane to find out more about their approach. Whilst they were pipped for line honours by Energy Efficient Vehicles on both occasions - first by Rode RAGE (2015) and then by Ormeau State High School (2016) - there was still plenty for the Woodleigh team to be proud of as we discovered...
We're getting pretty excited here in Maryborough - the home of the RACV Energy Breakthrough - and are looking forward to welcoming you. We've noticed though, that our schools and teams have been getting pretty excited themselves and sharing this excitement with their local media and through social media.
